Letter that Max Gunther received in 1972 from a man claiming to be D.B. Cooper.  The birthday of March 2nd and the crossed out letter at the end are both key items that tie this letter to William J. Smith.

  1. Why do you think Dan Cooper would sign his letters “D.B.” when that was not his name – but rather a journalists mistake? The name he used (in honor of someone he knew) was “Dan.” Wouldn’t he continue using that name? Wouldn’t he have mentioned the mistake and corrected it in his letters? He must’ve had a reason sufficient reason to choose that name in the first place.
